Urban American Management has owned and operated rental properties in the New York metropolitan area since 1997. In 2011, Urban American Management pledged to switch from incandescent to compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) bulbs in an effort to save energy and promote sustainability.
While many people are aware that CFLs are better for the environment, they may not know why this is the case. For one thing, CFLs last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, which saves money while reducing landfill waste. While incandescent bulbs are cheaper to purchase, the lifespan of CFLs means they are less expensive over the lifespan of the bulb.
Because CFLs use around 75 percent less energy and produce 90 percent less heat, they have a considerably smaller impact on the environment. Switching just one incandescent bulb to CFL results in 1,000 pounds less carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere due to reduced energy consumption.
